Privacy policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026

Who we are

Architecture Woods operates architecturewoods.com, a US-based publication about architecture, interiors, and design. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Architecture Woods.

This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information when you visit our website, sign in, or communicate with us. For privacy questions or requests, email legal@architecturewoods.com.

Information we collect

Website and technical information

Our website and infrastructure providers process information needed to deliver and protect the site. This may include your IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, referring URLs, request times, and diagnostic or security logs.

Google sign-in

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive identity information such as your name, email address, profile image, Google account identifier, and email-verification status. We also process account and session identifiers and related security information, which may include your IP address and browser information.

We use this information to recognize your account, maintain your signed-in session, and protect access. We do not receive your Google password. You can read public articles without signing in.

Article comments

When reader submissions are enabled, signed-in readers can submit plain-text comments for review. We store the comment, its submission time and moderation status, a link to your account, and a snapshot of your name and optional profile image. Administrators can review pending comments; only approved comments appear publicly with the name and image snapshot. Your email address and internal account identifier are not included in the public comment display.

If sign-in interrupts a comment, we may temporarily store the article, draft text, and a submission identifier in this browser tab to continue after sign-in. We accept that continuation for up to 15 minutes and clear it when it is consumed, cancelled, or completed. It contains no password or authentication credential.

Messages and editorial correspondence

If you email us, we receive your email address, name if provided, message, attachments, and related correspondence. Please provide only information relevant to your inquiry.

When preparing editorial coverage, we may also process professional names, roles, biographies, credits, quotations, and business contact details obtained directly from contributors or from public professional sources. Relevant information may appear in published coverage with appropriate attribution.

Optional analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand readership and improve the website. It processes information such as page URLs, including query parameters, referring pages, browser and device characteristics, approximate location, interactions, and cookie identifiers. Your connection also transmits technical information, including your IP address, to Google.

Our integration does not send your account name or email address as analytics fields. Google signals and advertising personalization are disabled in our analytics configuration.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Deliver, maintain, and secure the website.
  • Provide Google sign-in and manage accounts and sessions.
  • Attribute and moderate submitted comments and prevent duplicate or excessive submissions.
  • Remember privacy preferences and apply your analytics choices.
  • Understand website use through consent-based analytics.
  • Respond to inquiries, corrections, and privacy requests.
  • Research, prepare, credit, and maintain editorial coverage.
  • Meet legal obligations and investigate misuse or protect legal rights.

We do not use an inquiry or correction email to subscribe you to marketing messages.

Cookies and your choices

We use cookies or similar technologies for functions such as sign-in and remembering your privacy preferences. These serve different purposes from optional analytics cookies.

Google Analytics loads only after you accept analytics cookies. When analytics is enabled on this website, you can reject it or change your choice through Cookie settings in the website footer. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection through our integration; it does not automatically erase information collected before withdrawal. You can contact us about deletion requests.

Rejecting analytics does not prevent you from reading articles or using Google sign-in. Using sign-in still involves Google processing information needed for that service.

You can also manage cookies through your browser. Blocking necessary cookies may affect sign-in or saved preferences. Our website does not currently change its behavior automatically in response to legacy browser Do Not Track signals; optional analytics is controlled through your cookie choice. Do Not Track is distinct from opt-out rights available under applicable privacy laws.

Who receives information

We disclose information as needed to operate the publication and website:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): infrastructure supporting hosting, storage, database operations, and related service delivery.
  • Google: identity information for sign-in and, with your analytics consent, website-use information for Google Analytics.
  • Email service providers and authorized personnel: information needed to receive, manage, and respond to correspondence.
  • Professional advisers or relevant authorities: information reasonably needed to meet legal obligations, address legal claims, or protect rights and security.

We limit access to people and providers who need information for their role. We do not exchange personal information for payment or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Google's handling of information is described in its Privacy Policy and information about partner websites.

Retention

Retention depends on the purpose of the information and relevant legal, security, and operational needs:

  • Account information is retained while an account is maintained and as reasonably necessary to address deletion requests, misuse, or legal obligations.
  • Session and security information is retained as needed for authentication, troubleshooting, and incident investigation.
  • Correspondence is retained as needed to resolve the matter, manage related follow-up, and maintain necessary records.
  • Analytics and privacy-preference records are retained according to the relevant service settings and the need to measure readership or remember and document choices.
  • Published editorial information may remain as part of the publication's archive, subject to applicable rights and appropriate corrections.

We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed, subject to legal exceptions. Copies in backups may remain until their normal expiration or replacement cycle, with access restricted.

Your privacy requests

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent; or opt out of certain uses or disclosures. These rights may be subject to exceptions, including for legal obligations and protected editorial activity.

Email legal@architecturewoods.com to make a request. Include enough information to identify the account or correspondence involved. We may need proportionate identity verification before disclosing or changing information. We will respond within applicable legal deadlines. Where available under local law, an authorized agent may act on your behalf, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response.

Signing out does not delete your account. Removing the Google connection in your Google account settings does not itself delete records already held by Architecture Woods. Contact us to request deletion.

Additional information for EEA, UK, and Swiss readers

Where the relevant data-protection laws apply, Architecture Woods is responsible for the purposes and means of the processing described in this policy. Our legal bases depend on the activity: consent for optional analytics; performance of a contract where necessary to provide requested account services; legitimate interests in operating and securing the publication, handling correspondence, and editorial work, balanced against your rights; and compliance with legal obligations.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You may also complain to your competent data-protection authority.

International processing and security

Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where applicable law requires a transfer mechanism, the transfer must be covered by a valid mechanism, such as an applicable adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards. Contact us for information about safeguards applicable to your data.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including access restrictions appropriate to its use. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Architecture Woods is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action, including deletion where required.

Links to other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information.

We may update this policy as our practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before making a material change to how we use personal information.
